Campaign Story - I was allotted space for a book shop in 2005/06, in JNU. This shop, ‘Book Cart’, has always been run as a non-formal enterprise. The vision is to create an inclusive and creative space for promoting interaction, dialogue and exchange of ideas through reading. The profit from the bookshop was also being used to run a small library in Devlikhet village in Uttarakhand primarily for children. Thus, making it a vibrant space for facilitating open dialogue. ‘Literary Evenings’ have been organised regularly, with a range of students from various disciplines, varied age groups and from different socio-economic-cultural backgrounds.
However, the business has suffered badly after the restrictions imposed following the 9th Feb 2016 political incidence in JNU and the pandemic. The pandemic also put a stop to the parallel activity of organising book exhibitions in various university campuses and the library.
I hope we will come back on track and return this financial favour to the society through our work and services.
