While Goa still recovers from the second wave of Covid -19, a curfew AND the after effects of Cyclone Tauktae. A Hotel at Vainguinim Beach Goa continued to construct a concrete slab along a major portion of the entire high tide line on a PUBLIC BEACH! This completely ruins the natural ecosystem of the area and will cause irreversible damage to the beach - A beach that belongs to everyone. Hence its OUR responsibility to protect it.
The residents and local fisherman in the area have tried everything from contacting the local panchayat to getting a site inspection conducted by the GOA COASTAL MANAGEMENT ZONE AUTHORITIES (GCZMA) as this is a clear violation of the COASTAL REGULATION ZONE (CRZ) Laws.
Due to pressure from the residents to stop the construction The hotel in question completely violated any and all curfew rules/regulations by the Goa Government and completed the concrete structure in record time, having labour work night and day to finish.
When they were unable to resolve the issue on time, The Residents of the Vainguinim Valley Residents Association (VVRA) have filed a Writ Petition in the High Court and have initiated the case in court against the hotel and the authorities for not taking action in due time. The residents have been paying from their own pockets to fund this case in court and now require financial assistance to see this matter through legally. When the people in charge of our environment don't help, we have to lead the way to make this a better planet, all while following due process.
We need YOU! As strength in numbers always goes a long way. We hope you donate to our cause so that the next time you visit the beaches of Goa, they're kept in their natural pristine condition, just as they should be.
For all of you that live, travel and have moved to Goa during the pandemic to make this your new home, we urge you to please donate to our cause to SAVE VAINGUINIM BEACH and prevent it from being a precedent for large corporates to create concrete structures on the beautiful beaches of Goa.
