Short One-Minute summary about this fundraiser:
We are 14 engineering students from Coimbatore representing India in a prestigious International Boat Race Competition that aspires to spark sustainability in the Marine Industry.
This race is happening from 4th July to 9th July in Monaco, the yachting capital of the world. 20 countries are racing in this event and for the first time in 9 years, India is taking part in this competition, represented by us, Team Sea Sakthi, from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Despite coming from a landlocked area with little to no access to Naval architecture; we researched, designed and fabricated a lithium and solar-based electric boat that produces zero-emission and is completely sustainable, all in less than 3 months.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to represent the nation. Our project's overall budget is 59 lakhs. We are short of ₹ 6,87,957 to successfully race in this event. Your contribution will help us sail high and make our nation proud! Your support will encourage us to win this race and hoist our flag sky-high in Monaco!
I have attached the break-up of various categories in which our team now needs funding. You can sponsor or contribute to any of the categories below:
You can support us by:
1. Donating - Every rupee you donate to us will be used in purchasing additional racing components and avail accommodation for us in Monaco, minus a small fee charged by Milaap for hosting this web page.
2. Sharing our story with friends, family and others in your network who are passionate about supporting student causes and energy solutions.
Detailed version of this fundraiser:
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is an international race event organised by Yacht de Club Monaco where university students of 32 teams from 20 different countries design sustainable boats and race them against boats from other international teams.
This event has been happening for 9 years but for the first time, India is taking part this year as Team Sea Sakthi, from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore.
No sooner than we got selected, we researched, designed, also managed our exams and classes, and burnt the midnight oil in fabricating our energy boat. The primary source of our energy boat is Lithium-Ion Battery. The secondary source is flexible solar panels.
We chose to work on bringing energy solutions to the marine industry as we believe emissions from waterways are often disregarded when they should be identified as an equal contributor to carbon emissions as conventional vehicles on land.
Research shows that 207 million tonnes of CO2 were released into the atmosphere by marine fishing vessels in 2016 alone. This is equivalent to the carbon emissions of 51 coal-fired power plants.
In regard to this, our team comprising of 2nd and 3rd-year students mostly from Mechanical, Electrical, IT and Civil domain built 'Yali - the first student-built Indian energy boat' to support clean energy initiatives in the Marine and Yachting Industry.
Once this competition gets over, we aspire to patent this project into devising energy boats compatible for fishermen to procure fish in the ocean and sustain their livelihood in a sustainable manner. Instead of purchasing a propellor from an outside vendor, we will be designing the propellor.
As mentioned in the short read, our racing budget is 59 lakhs. Thanks to our institution, our sponsors and our kind donors, we were able to raise 53 lakhs. we are short of 6 lakhs to take part in this race.
If you've read this far and find our cause worthy of donating, please do support us to race at this event and represent India. We've crossed 95% of the bridge. All it requires is a little nudge and support from your end to get through and make it to the other side.
Milaap does not charge us any fee for running this campaign. To cover their expenses, Milaap requests a TIP from donors like you at the payment checkout page. By default, this TIP is 15% of your donation. But, you can click the drop-down arrow and CHANGE THIS to any % you want. You can also TYPE zero for a tip (No tip))
If you know any organisations/corporates that wish to contribute to this project through CSR funds, please reach out to us at:
