1.5 months ago I lost my grandfather to Liver Cancer. On 26th September 2020, he'd have turned 81.
My Dada was the strongest person I know. We watched him fight and fight until he finally couldn't anymore. We watched him silently suffer and smile through the pain of his surgery, radiation treatments, IV sessions and medication. He never once complained. The Cancer slowly took over his entire body - his lost ability to walk, to move and finally to speak.
The financial strain that Cancer causes is, in most cases, large enough to deplete people's life savings. And it might still not be enough. Innumerable patients and thier families cannot afford it and can only hope for a less painful death. The mental, emotional and physical pain they suffer is unimaginable.
In honour of my grandfather's birthday I've decided to donate Rs. 25,000 to Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). TMH provides poor cancer patients medical and palliative care, at minimal or no cost. I am also starting a donation and it would be wonderful if we could come together and help the less fortunate by reducing their suffering to whatever extent possible. Having seen what Cancer does to a person and the family, I cannot stress how much they need our help.
