The Covid lockdown has meant that we, artists who normally travel out of our villages to perform are not able to do so. Many of us and our families rely solely on the income from performances and now find ourselves in a very precarious situation, with no end in sight. I am a Manganiyar singer and I have started this fundraiser to find support for my community of singers from Harwa village in Barmer, Rajasthan and Kalbelia dancers in Jodhpur. We are looking to raise funds for 60 families. Our folk music and dance form an integral part of the culture of Rajasthan. Your support will go a long way in sustaining us and the arts in Rajasthan through this difficult time.
Currently, we have so much uncertainty and concern surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) so it's genuine to feel restless, but we need to think about the many daily wagers who have lost their job. Many workers are so helpless that they have started walking thousands of kilometers to reach their homes. Some of them have died on the way.
The funds will be shared between 60 families of artists in Western Rajasthan. One of the artists Talab Singh who is running the campaign will distribute some ration as well as cash to the families for expenses other than food.
Your small contribution will make a huge difference and definitely brings you a lot of blessings.
