Help the Sunrise Stars to shine brighter :)

Hi,
Thank you for coming here, we'd like to introduce ourselves, our campaign and the ways in which you can suport us.
About us -
Nikhil Rai : I'm an engineer by education, and having worked in different MNC's in different capacities, I constantly looked back to my childhood, wondering how I'm going to contribute to and lead the movement of change I want to see? This persistent question led me to the teach for India fellowship where I'm a full time teacher, teaching 7th and 8th graders in Sunrise English Medium School in Pune.
Ashutosh Gharde: I'm a mechanical engineering graduate from RTMNU. I spent my four years in college working with differnt NGOs as well as MNCs as an intern and volunteer. I have always believed that poverty should not dictate anyone's destiny and this thought pushed me through life, gave me the strength to choose the road less travelled, and led me to Teach for India. I am also teaching in Sunrise English Medium School-Pune enjoying everyday by making learning science cool and awesome.
But, Is education only limited within school?
This was the question that our previous fellows tried to answer and set out to build a space after school hours where education was not limited by books and taught within four walls of the mundane classroom.
That's how the Sunrise Community center was started by two TFI alumni Harsh Maheshwari and Manoj Iyer in 2012 as an extended school project where all the kids from Sunrise EMS come to learn and play.
Things we do at SCC...
Since the kids are in secondary grades we conduct regular classes in the centre other than that every week we have extra curricular activities like computer programming, performing arts, fine arts, making DIY projects, football, cricket, poetry, MUN, Parliamentary debates and much more.

Some recent achievements of our Sunrise Stars :)
-Despite of the challenging conditions, our Under-14 girls team last year won the JFK ( a football tournament started by a TFI alumni) football in Pune.
-15 out of 16 kids won prizes at the TFI-MUN and received verbal mentions at Pune- MUN, in which they were participating with college going students.
-Our kids in International English & Maths Olympiads have secured National ranks in 300s to 500s and have gone up to the second round.
-Award for a play with the best message and screen play in a theatre competition called Dramebazz.
3 ways you can help...
  1. The community centre is a rented place and the rent is Rs.15000. We need your help in supporting the SCC so that it can operate properly.
  2. We are also starting a science lab in the centre since for all the kids that we are catering and it is necessary to have sophisticated instruments and a space to conduct experiment we need your help to create such a space.
  3. Next academic year the kids are going to give their 10th grade board exams and for better preparation we’ll need reference books and other resources so a little part of the fund raising will be used for buying books for 10th because many of these kids have bigger dreams and we don’t want money to be a barrier in their way.
These funds will provide the kids a safe and a joyful place (SCC) to explore and learn.
