COVID PANDEMIC SITUATION IN CHHATTISGARH:
Survey dated 4th May 2021 reported over 7 lakh corona cases in Chhattisgarh, making it 3rd on the list of most affected states. The timely availability of medical supplies like medicines, oxygen, ambulance etc. could have helped saved many of the 9200 lives lost.

SUMIT FOUNDATION:-
Sumit Foundation is a registered NGO based at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This was done in memory of Mr. Sumit Singh Kshatri, who died on 16 February 2015 due to kidney failure. In the last 6 years, more than 5 thousand people have been directly and indirectly helped by the organization in 9 different states.

Sumit Foundation has been tirelessly investing efforts on ground-level to help poor and marginalized, requiring assistance related to healthcare issues for the last 6 years. Last year when we were exposed to Covid 19, the Sumit Foundation led initiatives ensured availability of food, basic hygiene and medical supplies to returning migrant workers. In addition, Sumit Foundation help them in accommodation arrangements by collaborating with various organizations across Chhattisgarh supporting the Covid-19 relief efforts.

GROUND REALITY:-
This year, during lockdown, we received a number of calls for assistance with Covid 19. Consequently, we assessed the situation through our ground network. Our findings were extreme shortage of beds, ventilators as well as other supplies both in government and private hospitals becoming the cause of deaths which lead to a situation of chaos.
Amidst the chaotic situation, another challenge which surfaced was unavailability of transportation facilities for Covid 19 patients. To make matters worse, public transport or vehicles were unavailable due to the lockdown. Furthermore, the family members abandoned their near and dear ones in many underprivileged families due to lack of facilities and resources.

OUR RESPONSE-
 Many ambulance services gauged the situation and harnessed undue advantage by extorting excessive amounts from the patients. This put further pressure on growing death rates since patients were unable to reach the hospital on time. The situation further worsened, when similar situation arose with medicines and medical supplies.

Taking note of the situation, Sumit Foundation arranged 8 vehicles and converted it into a mini ambulance. It was equipped with all necessary facilities such as oxygen cylinders, medical supplies, etc. The same was utilized to move patients to the hospital round the clock. In addition, a team of dedicated doctors was always available.

During the last month, over 100 critical patients including pregnant, elderly, and physically challenged have been saved via use of Sumit Foundation’s mini ambulance. The intervention covered various districts such Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Bhilai. In addition to mini ambulance, medicines are being delivered at door to patients with serious illnesses. Sumit Foundation’s efforts were televised on Republic Bharat, NDTV, Outlook Hindi, News18,  Etv Bharat.

Current Requirements – Operations
Many lives in this pandemic has been saved by converting a standard car into a makeshift ambulance. However, by no means it is a replacement for a fully equipped advanced ambulance. To prepare for the third wave, ambulance equipped with ventilators, suction machines, infusion pumps, defibrillators, cardiac monitor, nebulization, etc. is necessary. This will enable us to grow our reach to patients with transportation and medical assistance along with our medical team. The requirements are as follows:

1. One Ventilator Ambulance worth Rs. 31,25,000/-.
2. Medical supplies for Covid 19 relief activities in 6 districts of Chhattisgarh, like Oxygen Cylinder/Concentrators, Oxygen Flow Meter, PPE Kits, N 95 Masks, Stretcher, Medicines, IR Thermometer, Oximeter, Clinical Masks, Gloves, Sanitizers worth Rs 30,00,000/-.
3. Salary/Insurance/Vehicle Maintenance/ Medical emergency expanses  worth Rs 9,75,000 for on ground team, drivers, and para medics staff.
