The Pandemic has unequivocally affected communities from the privileges of technology. Most importantly, education has been inaccessible to children.
My name is Arindam Das (alias Sumi Das). I am a transgender rights activist and a resident of Coochbehar. And I am here to ask for your help - to support 16 children from my community to access education and opportunities which otherwise won’t be possible. Let me tell you why. Children from our communities have suffered the impact of Pandemic through not only inaccessible classrooms, but also from mid-day meals which otherwise could ensure proper nutrition to them.
Our children come from families affected the most as a result of Covid-19. They are children of daily wage laborers, household maids, sex workers - professions who have faced immense hardship due to loss of wages in the last two years. Here is where Diya, Rimpi, Rashida, Samim, Oindrila, Purabi, Ruby, Chiku, Rimi are among 16 children supported through Gurukul. During the second wave of the Pandemic, Gurukul functioned as a daycare center cum classroom until for the children. Now that they are back in school, we still function as an after-school daycare center, ensuring they receive proper nutrition, rest well, play well and learn different art forms as well - like drawing, singing and dancing. We currently have estimated that, supporting holistic learning of each children costs us 2500 INR. Despite few existing patrons who have helped us sustain our efforts, Gurukul is in need of continued support to help the initiative run its course and reach its goal.
We are requesting you to spare a minimum amount of Rs 100, towards Gurukul's fund and help us in educating our children.
We hope you can help us help our kids to continue having a childhood and achieve their dreams.
