On 2nd May we get a call from our aunt that uncle has passed away early morning due to non-Covid but age related ailments. Since that time COVID was at peak, no relatives were willing to go & help our aunt & family so Sugindra & his Mother stepped out to support the family for cremation. Unfortunately, for the cremation we needed proper documents for which Sugindra had to visit a COVID Centre & get the documents clearance from the doctor. Further he had to wait at cremation center for entire day along with other COVID patients who had passed and there was a long waiting for the cremation. We suspect, during that time Sugindra & his Mother may have contacted the virus. On 7th May, both of them fell sick. Since there was delay to get clearance from BBMP, his mother doesn’t gets the hospital bed and she passes away at the Hospital reception after waiting nearly 6 hours in the reception.
This situation emotionally impacted Sugindra very deeply and his health condition further worsened. After much struggle, he manages to get a bed in a private hospital which had both oxygen and staff scarcity on 12th of May. He spends nearly 11 days over there and his condition was very bad. He had COVID Pneumonia with 70% lung damage. We then managed to shift him to another nearby private hospital which at least had some descent staff and oxygen facilities. His infection was brought to control but lungs were severely damaged. Hence as per doctors advice he had to be moved to Aster CMI, Hebbal hospital for better Ventilation and proper respiratory therapy’s.

On 6th June, he was shifted with high pressure oxygen support ambulance to Private Hospital. But during the transit to emergency, his oxygen drops to below 60 SPO2, hence he was ventilated immediately. His condition worsened again due to secondary bacterial infections and his body becomes resistance to anti-biotics. He was then moved to ECMO, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, it’s a bridge for the lung transplant. By this time, the family had spent nearly 30 Lakhs already since none of the hospitals were having cashless facilities.

Doctor has advised for a lung transplant costing around 50 Lakhs for which a team of doctors from Hyderabad will be flying to Bangalore to carry out the procedure as soon as we get 50% of the fund.

He is a sole bread earner and surviving currently with his wife(Home maker) and a 14 year old daughter.

Request everyone to donate generously and help to save our Sugindra Shankar recover soon.

Thank you and God Bless!!
