My name is Kunal Pathak and I am here to raise funds for my friend Suraj who has recently undergone a critical operation - An operation that has given life to his Father.
Suraj's Father Mr. Sugathan, 66-year-old, was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and needed a transplant to survive. Liver transplant operations are extremely risky for both the donor and recipient.
To perform this life saving operation, doctors were in need of a healthy living donor.
Most worringly, Suraj's dad's health was at a sharp decline and they had no time to wait for a donor.
Suraj, without reluctance came forward and after a series of tests was considered fit enough to donate a part of liver to his dad.
The transplant surgery happened on 5th October, wherein Suraj donated 70% of his liver to save his beloved father. As per doctors Suraj's liver will regrow in 6-8 months and he should be fine.
The surgery was a success albeit some complications. It was a long and a difficult process, both physically and emotionally.
Both the father and son suffered severe bodily pain post-surgery due to complications involved and are now in recovery phase.
Suraj, despite being a father of a 5 yr old, risked his own life to save his Dad, which is frightening and inspiring at the same time.
The total expense (including post surgery expense) incurred is more than 40 Lakhs (4 Million Rupees).He couldn't get any insurance relief as Insurance company denied the claim as he 'willingly' donated an organ, which is not covered as part of medi-claim. He only received approx 6.5 Lakhs via Parental insurance which was negligible considering the total expenditure for both operations. Suraj had to take a loan of 35 Lakhs (3.5 million rupees) to pay all hospital bills and post operation expenses/tests.
Suraj works with me and I know the kind of selfless person that he is.
