Bansai Procheshta was founded in 1997 at Bansai, Konnagar, District Hoogly with the noble idea of serving the mentally disabled children of the region.
Till then the disabled children had no nearby facilities and had to travel long distances. This journey that began as a centre for the mentally handicapped has now evolved into a recognized school for the mentally handicapped with 55 students.
The government provides the mid-day meals at the school and apart from normal academics the children have access to a variety of activities including physical education, sports and cultural activities to give them a well-rounded development. This helps the children become more balanced and are able to take care of themselves and those around them.
The children of Bansai Procheshta have excelled in several sports like football, volleyball, floor hockey and cycling and have represented India and won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. They have made the institution, state and the nation proud by their untiring efforts and achievements.
Over the years Bansai Procheshta has been supported by many generous individuals who have helped it grow from strength to strength and serve the community of mentally handicapped children.
