Dokra Artisans of the two communities from the villages of Dwariyapur, East Burdwan and Bikna, Bankura, are heavily impacted because of the very stretched Covid pandemic which has stretched out for around 18 months now. The typical order per month for an artisan ranges between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 out of which they take home for survival 50%, rest going in for the material cost. So what they get is only their labour cost, but no real appreciation return for their art. And that is a way till now, which we are  now trying to change since last few years. But that has been very difficult indeed as we have had difficulty to reach out to the art connoisseurs who are really willing to pay for our artisanry, through which we keep up this 5000 year old art form.

I Subha Karkamar belong to the village of Dwariyapur and my younger community brother Bama Karmakar belongs to the village of Bikna. We are both together trying to raise money both as donations and advance against work payments from all of you who can understand our pain and suffering.

Dr Suryanil Ghosh, who is the Chairman of TotalStart Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Developers www,totalstart.org, is helping us raise this fund in his personal capacity, and on behalf of us in discussion with us, as we are not computer savvy. He is also one of the very engaged patron and supporter of both the villages of Dokra Artisan Community. We have requested him to raise the fund on his personal capacity and distribute the funds to us amongst our community members as per his understanding of the need of the community members with whom he is engaged as a mentor and supported since 2014 and in discussion with us, Subha, Bama and Suresh Karmakar. Mr Kallol Kumar Ghosh is also a Director of TotalStart who has been engaged to help us since last 6 months to support us developing a legal enterprise and support us in marketing and sales of our dokra artisanry.
