Ambal Matriculation School (AMS) is an ISO 9001 certified educational institution under Minu Charitable Trust. It started with a vision to support the underprivileged children and has served this society for over two decades.
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the world in every way possible, leaving nothing unaffected and the world of education has endured an especially deep hit. By the end of March 2020, the virus had spread worldwide, forcing the closure of the majority of schools, colleges, and universities. Many efforts have been made to keep education going at all levels by shifting from traditional to digital techniques. But this transition is not something that people from all tiers of society can afford and access. The students from under-resourced and from marginalized communities have been the most affected.
Parents of these children work as domestic help, auto drivers, street vendors and some temporary employees for a private enterprise. The COVID-related shutdown has disrupted these jobs, and most of these households have lost their primary sources of income. This inevitably resulted in their children studying in Affordable Private Schools (APSs) getting affected as the parents are unable to pay the tuition fees or purchase the books for the academic year. As a result, the schools are unable to pay the salaries to its teachers leading to a large number leaving the school and looking for alternate jobs. This disruption has had a significant impact in the children’s education from these communities. Learning levels of the students have gone down drastically as they have been out of school for almost one and a half years. This learning loss has widened the equity gap between the students from APS and their contemporaries who have all round access to up to date technology and have been able to attend regular online classes during this pandemic.
To get the Ambal Matriculation school ecosystem functioning effectively once more and to ensure that children do not suffer from this learning crisis any longer, funds are required for paying the tuition fees in order to pay teachers salary and to provide the children with textbooks, notebooks and stationeries. The school serves 150 children and each child needs INR 3,000/- per term (June – Sep, Oct-Dec & Jan – Apr for the academic year 2021-22).
Every contribution you make is valuable and will make a significant difference in the fight against the learning crisis. We are grateful for your generosity and kindness in supporting these children in continuing their education.
