Here are two stories from rural Uttarakhand. One of Kamlesh Joshi and the other of Gaurav.
After performing excellently in the 12th Boards, Kamlesh got place in a college under Delhi University, an opportunity for which many students struggle. However the following few months broke him. Kamlesh struggled to adapt in an alien atmosphere, cross a language barrier, manage peer pressure or ask for help to be able to bridge the gap of exposure between him and his peers. The result was that he dropped out.
It is Kamlesh, along with a group of like-minded individuals who later went on to open Nankmatta Public School in 2012. This initiative was taken keeping in mind the pain and need of students from his place for an education that prepares them for life and enables them to bring out their true potential.
It is because of this effort that we saw Gaurav, who came from a very humble background. He faced similar challenges in school but was supported in a school space that nurtured him to be able to feel safe, express and unleash his potential. From a timid and hesitant boy struggling to make friends and express himself in a new space, today Gaurav is pursuing his graduation from one of the prestigious Delhi University Colleges having also received the INSPIRE fellowship from Government of India.
Rural Uttarakhand has thousands of such Gauravs who deserve a similar support system both in schools and in their communities, so that they can grow with full potential and support their families and communities.
With the Objective of holistic learning to the most underprivileged children in the region, we are introducing “Himalayan Fellowship For Transformation”. The fellowship will support 800 Children in the first two years and aims to move to all of Uttarakhand.
We humbly ask you to do your part in helping us to support the children of Uttarakhand. The cost of supporting one child for a year is 3625 rupees. You can support as many kids you want. We are looking to raise 29.40 lakhs.
We and our children earnestly looking out for your help. As you think of holidays here, do help us enable a relevant education for our children that unleashes who they can be.
