For those who don't know us, we work for Stray Animals in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On a normal day we carry out rescues, birth control & feed about 250 stray dogs, primarily those who don't have access to food or have babies.
We also have a shelter that houses 50+ dogs. We fund our work through our store & don't rely on donations for any of it.
Unfortunately, these are not normal times. They city has been in various stages of Lock-down since a month & now there is a full lock-down that keeps extending without an end in sight. The dogs who live in residential areas can still find food. The one's around markets, commercial areas, housing societies, public parks & tourist spots can't.
We fed such dogs during the last lock-down up until February 2021 till our resources allowed. We had help from a few kind individuals that allowed us to feed them through the harsh winters. The same crisis is upon us again. We can't feed a few while the others look on. Its heartbreaking & inhuman. We are trying our best but its not enough. We could use your help !!
How Does it work?
Commercial dog food is prohibitively expensive so we make our own. We use Chicken waste & cooked rice in a 1-5 ratio & an average stray dogs needs 500g per day for survival. It Costs about Rs 20 per kg to make & feed ( fuel cost included )
We need 450 kg per day for the next 15 days.
That's 450*20 = Rs 9000/day * 15 days= Rs 1,35,000
Where do we feed ?
We cover the entire Gomtinagar area starting from 1090 crossing to Mithaiwala & all the way up to Bharwara Crossing. The route is about 40 kms overall & covers locations where access to food is difficult during the lock-down. We also provide food to volunteers in & around Indiranagar & to anyone who steps up to feed in their area. In the last lock-down, we averaged 600-700 dogs a day by ourselves. The volunteers covered many more.
Is feeding 900 dogs enough?
It Isn't. But we are limited by supplies & manpower. We wish to do more but for now, we can only cover so much. Access to chicken waste & volunteers is limited due to the pandemic.
How do you know how your donations are utilized?
