St. John’s Medical College Hospital has been at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19. Now more than a year after its onset, after seeing a brief lull, we are again battling the disease with renewed dedication. The surge in the numbers this year has called for extra-ordinary responses on multiple fronts and our staff have continued to work long hours, despite seeing many of their colleagues fall prey to the virus. It is the grace of the Almighty, that all but one of our staff have recovered after being infected.
We inaugurated a COVID Care Centre in August 2020, thanks largely to the donations from the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives and Titan Company Limited. This Centre houses a 24-bed Intensive Care Unit, a 24-bed High Dependency and a 48-bed Isolation Unit.

Our stand-alone Fever Clinic was started at the beginning of the pandemic and continues to function everyday. To date, we have catered to almost 20,000 patients here and again after a brief downturn we are back to seeing more than 150 patients daily at this facility. Rapid Antigen Tests and RT-PCR tests are done here and the patients advised accordingly. We continue to provide Home Monitoring Services through Teleconsultation and a large number of patients have benefitted from this.
St. John’s Hospital has been mandated to provide a large proportion of our beds to the Government of Karnataka/ Bruhut Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. These beds are rapidly expanding and very soon at least 900 of our hospital beds will be occupied by COVID-19 patients – 700 of these will be given to the Government.

St. John’s management and the Alumni Association are jointly working to raise funds to support the COVID work of the hospital.
