Story

Greetings Donor,

I am honored to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you all.

My name is Srikaanth GV from Arasan Silambam Academy (ASA) and on behalf of my master and coach, Thirumalai Sakthi I am reaching out to you.

Silambam is an ancient Indian martial art which is gaining limelight in recent years. This art dates back to 4th Century BC and is mentioned in the Sangam Literature, reflecting our culture and tradition. It is one of the oldest and traditional sport that is still being practiced in the rural parts of our country. Though this is our heritage, it does not get the attention like other popular sports like cricket and Football.

Arasan Silambam Academy was started in May 2010 with the aim to teach the Indian martial art to the current generation and preserve our culture & tradition. Currently they run classes in Hosur, Tamil Nadu and Bangalore, Karnataka. Till date they have taught more than 2000 young boys and girls as well as many youths.

10 students from the academy had participated in All India National Championship 2021-22 conducted by Youth & Sports Development Association (YSDA) of India held in Madgaon, Goa from 27th to 29th November 2021. All 10 players won laurels (9 gold medals & 1 silver medal) in various categories of the sport.

The students come from economically weaker background. 5 of the students are under 16 and are still in schools and their parents are farmers with a household annual income of about ₹60,000. The players got support from well-wishers and supporters to participate in the National tournament held in Goa, enabled them to win the National tournament.

Winners of the national championship will be representing India in the International competition, conducted by YSDA-Nepal to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal on 16th of January 2022 for 3 days. The players are ready and eager to participate in this tournament but lack the financial ability to make it. The expense is estimated to be around INR 3.5 lacks for all 10 students.

It's my humble request to you to kindly consider our case and donate whatever possible, helping us with an opportunity to represent our country and win.

Thanks & regards,
