Soni Kumari has been suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Her father works as a daily wage labourer and is the sole breadwinner of the family. Soni Kumari is currently admitted and receiving treatment at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, New Delhi.
Until now, the family have spent about Rs. 1 lakh as hospital expenses and medication. Soni’s family has arranged this amount from savings, and taking help from friends. Soni Kumari is in very critical condition now he and her family need our support.
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a type of blood cancer and happens when the body makes too many immature white blood cells. These cells, called myeloid blasts, can't mature into normal white blood cells. Because AML develops and gets worse quickly, prompt treatment is very important.
In AML, myeloid stem cells (a type of blood stem cell) become immature white blood cells called myeloblasts or blasts. These blasts do not become healthy white blood cells. Instead, they build up in the bone marrow, so there is less room for healthy white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. In addition, these abnormal cells are unable to fight off infection.
As per the hospital, Soni Kumari has to undergo a Bone Marrow transplant within next 30 days which is costing around Rs. 6 lakhs. Due to the lockdown and hospital expenses, the family have already exhausted their savings.
