Many of us are shocked and dismayed by the recent judgement of the Delhi High Court in a PIL filed by two concerned citizens, Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi, to suspend work on the Central Vista Project on Raj Path, during the peak of the pandemic.
The High Court not only dismissed the petition but called the petitioners “motivated”, questioned their public spirit and imposed on them a cost of Rs. 100,000.00 (INR One Lakh). The Court failed to see that a large number of citizens shared the petitioners’ concern and that the issue raised by them is very much one of public interest.
We would, therefore, like to express our solidarity towards the petitioners and the cause canvassed by them and also protest against this stifling of citizens’ voices. In order to demonstrate that there is widespread support for the petitioners and their cause let us come together and contribute Rs.10/- per head, as we anticipate that many people would want to join.
The collected funds will be offered, as a token of our solidarity, to the petitioners to enable them to pay the costs imposed by the court.
Contributors could, along with their contribution, also leave a message of support, names and contact details if they wish.
In case the judgement is later set aside or if excess funds are raised, the collection will be donated to the Hemkunt Foundation for Covid relief work.
