Autism Society of Udupi (ASU) is a model association working on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and aims to cater to the needs of people with ASD. ASU seeks to be a common organization to fulfill these needs. Primarily, it aims to build a knowledge base and support structure working in tandem with all the stakeholders involved, including parents, teachers, health professionals, students, and the general public. To achieve this goal, ASU has the following concrete objectives:
1. Create awareness about autism among all the stakeholders so that early diagnosis and early intervention could give the child maximum benefits.
2. Collaborate with state and central governments to evaluate the policies/schemes and suggest improvements of the same whenever required.
3. Networking with state and central government departments to effectively implement the various schemes for people with ASD.
4. Integrate the services offered by government and non-government organizations working in the field of autism and help build a support structure for autistic children.
5. Advocate for legal rights and protection of persons with ASD.
The funds collected by this fundraiser will be utilized to conduct the awareness camps for Anganwadi teachers, supervisors, special teachers, primary teachers, parents, health professionals, and the general public, making audio-visual material, pamphlets, and for the resource persons. Presently we are conducting 5-6 camps per month targeting approximately 300 participants. We would like to raise the number of these camps and raise awareness in the entire district so that early identification, diagnosis, and treatment can initiate and the support system can be established.
