    This fundraiser will benefit

    Smt. Namita Mandal

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

My mother, Smt. Namita Mandal is 69 years old. She was admitted in December 2019 at Apollo Gleneagles Kolkata for Gallstone ileus and cholecystoduodenal fistula. During 11 days at ICU, she was operated and the gallstone was broken down using Lithotripsy (Laser operation). We spent over Rs 7 lakhs in that period with Rs 5.5 Lakhs coverage from insurance + 20% co-pay.
.
.
Even after that initial operation, she struggled with life as she was not able to eat proper food and reported severe vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea. ..On April 1st, 2020, she was admitted at the same hospital. CT scan revealed there is an obstruction due to remainder of gallstone and perforated small intestine. Next day she underwent emergency laparotomy operation (Gallstone removal) and resection of 4ft of ileum (Small intestine). This impaired my mother but gave her immediate relief.
.
.
Right now, doctors suggested to amputate her right lower limb where blood flow is  not enough (Thrombocytopenia). You can understand that at old age losing a leg will severely impair my mother and cause her severe mental and emotional distress. While they wanted to operate with our consent, she has slipped into ventilator support.
.
.
Hospital charges have already amounted to Rs 26.78 Lakhs upwards by the 30-April-2020 and my insurance only covered till Rs 4.5 lakhs as the residual amount. She has yet to undergo the lower limb amputation which will add to the costs.

With the uncertainty of when my mother will recover completely and a seemingly long hospital stay, the pressure from hospital is mounting on us. Hence, any support from you in this hour of our need will be helpful.

I thank you and God bless you.
