My friend Smitha Maiya has been battling cancer for the last few months. She successfully underwent allogenic bone marrow transplant in February. Due to low immunity Post BMT, she contracted multiple rare infections such as BK virus, Epstein Barr virus, CMV virus and few other infections and complication. Due to this, she has again been hospitalised for the last few weeks. Her total medical expenditure is now inching towards 1 crore. Her family, who have stood like a rock with her, have already poured all their life savings into this and are finding it difficult to cope with the increasing medical costs.
