Hello. I am Simran, I volunteer with an NGO, the name is THE CHILD TRUST. They adopted a cluster in Raipura, a village in Firozabad in an attempt to promote education for children and explore alternative employment opportunities for the adults. Firozabad area is known for its beautiful glass bangles which are the main source of income of locals. The truth behind glassmaking is that it is highly poisonous and hazardous for health as it is made in furnace. Being exposed to a furnace each day for long hours leads to lung cancer, tuberculosis, peeling of skin and loss of eyesight. The life span of a male adult is only 45-55 years as they are made to work in a furnace since their childhood. Hardly any medical services are provided by the Government after the death of the male member of the family.

TCT’s small achievement in the area is set up a school in the area, which helps children get mainstreamed into local govt. school. The school has a capacity of 50 children. It took 8 years to achieve this feat. Along with that, they have been assisting the locals in obtaining an ID Card and ration card.
TCT’s future plan: Setting up a vocational training center in Raipura. At the center, they will be running stitching and tailoring programs by installing machines. They will be getting things made out of waste products, the main focus being on recycling and reusing the waste material. This will provide alternative employment and will stop people from working in bangle making furnaces which is very bad for a person’s health and leads to deadly diseases. This center for the males and females will not only be good for the health of the villagers but be really good for the environment.

THE CHILD TRUST is short on funds that are hampering their work. I have seen how passionate they are about their work, please come forward for this cause and help the villagers dream of a better future for themselves and their children.
