My association with the Safdarjung Hospital was initiated by my grandfather whose active voluntary service has brought relief to many. My frequent visits to the hospital, since my childhood, have taught me the value of every small contribution.
The Safdurjung Hospital is a large government hospital which has various patients coming from different backgrounds- several of them cannot even afford their basic necessities. It has a big Orthopaedic department which attends to victims of accidents, severe illnesses or ailments related to bones and joints. Many of them do not have anyone to support them and are so poor that even after surgery has been done, they cannot be discharged as they do not have enough money to buy a wheel chair/ Walker. There are more than 50 patients in every ward. While there are some NGOs that support these patients with money for surgery & medicines but Wheel chairs/ Walkers need to be bought by these patients themselves, but they often don’t have funds to do so. The plight of such patients is heart breaking.
I don’t want to be a mere witness to their hardships; I want to take action and make a difference like my grandfather did. He is no more but I want to carry forward his legacy of kindness. Together we all can make a difference- I have initiated this fund raising for these patients. I request all of you to please open up your hearts and contribute for such patients and enable them to buy wheelchairs and walkers.The following quotes from a patient and a doctor are a reflection of the above situation:Patient Ram Kumar: “I have come from Jaunpur . I do not have any money for surgery , medicines or even food. My surgey is being sponsored but doctor is asking me to buy wheel chair. Please tell me how can I buy wheel chair if I can’t even afford food for myself. Please help me get one wheel chair. I will be very grateful to you.”
Doctor B.P.Sharma, orthopedic surgeon: “While we help them with surgery & medicines at nominal cost, you can help them get discharged by buying a wheel chair for them.”I, Sidhant Sanduja, want to raise enough funds to sponsor ten wheelchairs for the underprivileged patients undergoing treatment at the Orthopaeedic Department st the Safdurjung Hospital. I appeal to your generosity to support me in doing so.
