I am Shweta Sharma, a Teach for India fellow teaching a BMC school. I have 67 kids and all of them are such amazing 6th std souls.

My kids live in the slums of Kalina where they don't have space to even play. The only time they can be a kid is in school. I want to encourage that.

So while teaching constellation I asked them to go home and see stars. Their answers shocked me when they said," there are no stars in Kalina and no windows in homes". To which I asked them to go take a walk at night. Their reply was "Didi, if we go out in night the rats and mice will eat us alive".

During these Mumbai rains their houses were filled knee deep in water but still they came to school.

These bunch of 10-13 year olds are so excited about the world and they ask questions like, " when and how did we get water on earth" and " who counts the population of the world". I want to introduce my kids to more sports and allow them to find answers to their questions through Olympiads and homi bhabha exams.

I want to give them the exposure that they deserve. I want to change their reality to  match their dreams of becoming a pilot or engineer or scientist.
I am asking for help for as much amount possible because if we don't do this, who will?Who else will give them wings?
