Hello, my name is Shubham Tiwari. I am a final year undergraduate student of Western History at the University of Lucknow. I was recently selected for the very prestigious IMCEERES (International Master's in Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies)- a two years master's degree program at Glasgow University, Scotland, United Kingdom, starting from September 2022.

I am one of the 45 people shortlisted from an outstanding pool of applicants that included students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and researchers from all over the world. More than 3,000 people applied for this master's program this year with less than only 2% making the cut. I am attaching the admission letter from Glasgow University for your reference.

I was born in a village in Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), a city in India. Due to parental conflicts and, my father's poor mental health condition (Schizophrenia), when I was only 3 years of age, I was sent away from my parents to live with my uncle in Mumbai (a city in India) so I could be given primary education. There I spent most of my childhood. Until high school, I studied in a charity school, and then, I was sent back to my village again to live with my biological parents. Around this time, as the eldest sibling among three brothers, the pressure for earning a living and supporting my family monetarily and physically started putting an additional burden on me. Amidst the dysfunctional environment due to my father's frequent violent breakdowns, I somehow managed to take admission to a local college, situated twenty miles away from my village, and continued my studies. Yet, the biggest challenge was to study everything by oneself because there were no qualified teachers at the college and, the absence of quality education, electricity and internet facilities, and lack of transportation added extra odds to my path. Although the hardships made it difficult for me to believe in my dreams, they gave me the reason to work harder in my academics. Now on, my only goal was to achieve good grades in class 12th, so I could get a quality education by getting admission to some good universities. So I stuck to the principle that in the end no matter the odds, hard work and consistent efforts will pay off. And it certainly did. I topped my district with 92% in the board exam which boosted my belief in my dream further to pursue an academic career, and for that, I needed to study at a good university from where I can start my academic career.

To ace my dream of working in academia, in September 2021, I started applying for scholarships in various national and international universities across the globe for pursuing a master's in western history. Fortunately, after seeing my academic records and motivation to study, the University of Glasgow offered me an admission letter to pursue a master's in its IMCEERES program. I have a great will to pursue my study, but my financial condition again is holding me back from pursuing my ambition.
