For my birthday this year, I have decided to celebrate differently. I want to invite you all to join me in donating to the Samiksha foundation instead of getting me anything for the day. My target is to collect Rs. 50,000 (Approx AUD 1000) by 7 Feb 2020 (D-day). My goal is to help provide education to children who are undergoing cancer treatment.

This is a cause I hold dear to me. I lost my grandmother to Stage 4 Ovarian cancer in 2017 after a two-year-long battle. The impact of the disease is felt not only on the patient but the entire family.  Samiksha Foundation provides support to children and their families by providing an environment of independent and assisted learning. This increases their happiness, self-esteem and confidence by allowing them to face the challenges of their medical life with hope and dignity. Among other initiatives, one of their focus areas is to provide educational support to long-term survivors to help them fulfil their academic potential. I never appreciated how lucky I was to have had someone fighting for my education. I’m inspired by initiatives like Samiksha, which are helping these children and want to wholeheartedly donate my birthday to ensure they have access to the same opportunities I did. The funds will be used to provide educational support to the children in the ward during the course of their treatment.
