Celebrate my birthday with the Samiksha Foundation

For my birthday this year, I have decided to celebrate differently. I want to invite you all to join me in donating to the Samiksha foundation instead of getting me anything for the day. My target is to collect Rs. 50,000 (Approx AUD 1000) by 7 Feb 2020 (D-day). My goal is to help provide education to children who are undergoing cancer treatment.

This is a cause I hold dear to me. I lost my grandmother to Stage 4 Ovarian cancer in 2017 after a two-year-long battle. The impact of the disease is felt not only on the patient but the entire family.  Samiksha Foundation provides support to children and their families by providing an environment of independent and assisted learning. This increases their happiness, self-esteem and confidence by allowing them to face the challenges of their medical life with hope and dignity. Among other initiatives, one of their focus areas is to provide educational support to long-term survivors to help them fulfil their academic potential. I never appreciated how lucky I was to have had someone fighting for my education. I’m inspired by initiatives like Samiksha, which are helping these children and want to wholeheartedly donate my birthday to ensure they have access to the same opportunities I did. The funds will be used to provide educational support to the children in the ward during the course of their treatment.

I’ll make this easy. Please help me give the best gift possible by donating to the Samiksha Foundation. You can jump to their site and check out the incredible work they are doing at https://www.samikshafoundation.org/aboutus-page. Thank you in advance, and I truly am grateful to you for choosing to donate.

Hi everyone,

I've been up to a lot in Bangalore. It was a pleasure meeting Sandhya and Vaani from the Samiksha team yesterday. Sandhya (centre) and Vijaya (right) are the sisters who head the show at Samiksha. We were joined by both our mothers as well for an evening of catching up and discussions.

We had a great time chatting about all things fundraising and the gaps with the current fundraising process. I'll be working with Samiksha over the next few weeks to brainstorm different ways we could make this process easier. They're so grateful for our support and have handed me a few gifts that I can bring back with me :)

We have already shared the INR amount to Samiksha and can finally share the remainder amount USD balance with them now. We're ironing out a few issues but should be able to complete the transfer latest by the next day or two. This has only been possible with your support, so thanks again everybody!

I'll be meeting the kids at Kidwai Memorial Hospital today to celebrate the birthday of 10 children in the ward. I'm very excited about it, and will keep you posted with more photos and updates.

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for your support.

I realised I've not posted an update in a while. Here's everything that's been on for the past two weeks.

A few days after my birthday, we transferred the funds collected in INR - Rs.32,760.32 to Samiksha. We're facing a few challenges in sending the USD amount - $551.70 to them. When donating in foreign currency, the source of the funds and identity of the person transferring the funds are essential as the RBI does not accept funds from anonymous donors. As most of our donors are anonymous, we needed an alternate way to help get these funds to Samiksha. After discussion with them, we decided to transfer the USD funds to my account first and then transfer it to them as we can then prove the identity and source of funds.

I want to make sure I'm candid with you about the proceedings, so you're all aware of what's happening with the funds. If any of you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

On the bright side, I'm meeting with the Samiksha team later this week, and we're celebrating a birthday in the Kidwai Hospital on Saturday. Stay tuned for more updates and photos!

Hi everyone,

You're all superstars! Thank you all for pitching in and donating. When I started this fundraiser, I didn't expect to receive so much love and such overwhelming support from all of you. I cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions.

It takes Rs.2500 to provide educational support to a child in the ward every month. We're able to support two children for almost 15 months each. That's a big win for us!! I am heading to Bangalore in three weeks time, and intend to visit Samiksha to meet with the fantastic team and the kids. I'll share photos from my visit along with pictures of the children all of you helped support!

THANK YOU again! I'm very grateful. I'm talking to Samiksha on how best to proceed with the transfer of funds and will keep you all posted.
