Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s affirmations:
“Poverty is the worst form of violence.” & “An ounce of practice is better than a ton of theory.”
Shanti Sahyog, a Gandhian NGO, empowers the underprivileged living in urban slums and villages, have access to a better quality of life, through its dedicated Team of 42. Our Mission is, ‘to help individuals and communities break the cycle of poverty that prevents them from reaching their full potential’. Our Vision: ‘For a Just World, free of Poverty & Violence.’
It is a proven fact that students who have not experienced the formal structure of a Pre School, perform poorly in primary and secondary school. So, in July 2008, we set up our 1st Play/Pre School, opposite Sudhar Camp Slum, Kalkaji, New Delhi. The response from the parents has been overwhelming, because of our excellent teachers, convenient location of the school and provision of free mid-day meals. Seeing the success of our 1st Play/Pre School, in 2013, we started our 2nd Play/Pre School, in Community Centre, DDA Flats, Kalkaji. In July 2017, a generous grant from the Australian Govt. for school infrastructure enabled us to set up our 3rd Play/Pre School in Tughlakabad Village, New Delhi. Our Schools contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) # 4 - Quality Education by enabling inclusive and equitable quality education and opportunities for lifelong learning.
All our Pre Schools follow Gandhi’s views on basic education - Nai Talim - wherein students are taught along with the 3 R’s, dignity of labour; humility, empathy and respect for their teachers and school mates. Learning becomes fun through educational tools, building blocks, puzzles and games. Creativity is stimulated through extracurricular activities. Children are also taken on Educational Trips and Picnics. The curriculum prepares them for entry into primary School.
Every year, students who pass out from our UKG get admission in primary school. We continue to sponsor their primary and secondary education and maintain their annual school report records. The aim is to promote Underprivileged Child Education in Delhi.
Rooted in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) our donors’ support is our lifeline. They include:
