Hello. This is Ganesh Kini. I am raising funds for the family of my late friend and colleague, Subbaiah Selvam. Selvam contracted COVID on 30 April 2021, and was hospitalised for 32 days. He had a venous blood clot (acute pulmonary thromboembolism) close to his lung which was diagnosed very belatedly. He passed away on 31 May 2021. He was 62.
He is survived by a wife and two sons. He was also financially supporting his widowed sister and his niece. Selvam's sudden and premature death has left them in a dire financial condition, as he was the primary breadwinner for this family.
Selvam worked with me at a small business for 37 years. He was hard-working and patient, and above all a very kind and generous person. His first priority throughout his life has been helping people. During the first and second waves of COVID, Selvam helped numerous people in his community access medical services. He also volunteered to distribute food to the needy. He did this at great personal risk, and tragically, his considerate nature eventually resulted in exposure to the virus.
His generosity also precluded him from having any savings, and his family, especially his wife and sister, are facing a difficult future. They live in a small rented house which they may no longer be able to afford. I personally will be directly contributing to his family to thank him for 37 years of work and companionship. He was indispensable and I cannot envisage a future for thebusiness without him. While no amount is enough to compensate for the loss, I am raising funds to try and mitigate the hardship of his dependents. A small donation would go a long way in helping this cause.
