Story

My mother, Seema Soni has been fighting Decomposed Chronic Liver Disease and is in need of an urgent liver transplant as a life saving measure. She is currently undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee hills. Her treatment will cost approximately 27,00,000.

She had been diagnosed with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in 2013, which later developed into Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, an incurable and progressive liver disease (it’s an autoimmune disease, which is defined as the immune system attacking itself). despite being on regular treatment.

She developed fever and low blood platelets in March 2017, she was admitted in Apollo Hospital. She developed symptoms like itchiness all over her body, swelling in her legs and stomach and fatigue which restricted her movement. In 2018 her condition severed, she complained of shortness of breath and fatigue.

The doctors diagnosed Pleural Effusion, a build up of fluid between the lungs and the chest. She was admitted in MICU and underwent Thoracentesis, a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall to remove fluid collection. At this point, the doctors explained us the need for a liver transplant being our only option for her recovery.

She was admitted again in the first week of January due to shortness of breath and excessive bloating of her stomach. She has also developed jaundice and unable to perform daily activities. MELD stands for (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease). MELD scores range from 6 (less ill) to 40 (gravely ill). MELD scores predict the three month mortality rate in patients with advanced liver disease and signify how urgently a patient like her, needs a liver transplant. Her MELD score is 31.
