    Seema Devi

    from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Life takes a horrible turn when a little bundle of joy arrives at your home after a long wait but, you realise this happiness is short-lived. We came across such a tragic story when we met Pankaj Kumar and Anita Devi, as their eleven-month-old daughter is born with a rare congenital disability.

"Cries of pain and grief keep me awake all night. My little angel screams with pain and, my heart sink as I see her helplessly. A tumour that weighs almost the same weight as her body is getting deeper with every passing day. I can't do anything to save her life. I feel I am failing as a mother." Seema's mother questions herself as she sees her child suffer.

Baby Seema is suffering from Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida, a rare congenital disability in which a developing baby's spinal cord fails to develop properly while a child is in the womb. It is the most severe form of spine Bifida. Her nerves and tissues of the spine are exposed, which leads to nerve damage and other disabilities like paralysis, urine maceration, insomnia, poor kidney traction, Acute Liver traction and fever with chills.

Since birth, she had a ball size tumour filled with pus below her head. It has turned so big that it can burst anytime. Therefore she can't lift her neck and often feels short of breath. With the worsening of her condition, her hands and feet are swelled up, hindering movement. Baby Seema cries in pain day and night, unable to sit or feed.

Seema's father, Pankaj, works as a helper at a local mobile shop. He leaves for work at 08:00 in the morning and returns at night. He does everything from serving tea water to customers to cleaning and repairing at the shop. All this hard work doesn't pay him enough to run his house smoothly. Seema's illness makes it impossible for him to go to other places and look for a better job.

Seema's mother is also a housewife as she can't go outside because of Seema's worsening health. Even Pankaj's son got seriously ill and, he had to spend all his savings for his treatment. Therefore Pankaj is left with nothing. He manages his household expenses by borrowing money on interest. The cost of treatment is beyond their capacity; consequently, they need funds to save Seema's life.

"I can give her each drop of my blood still, and I won't be able to save her life as I have no money to pay for her surgery. As I move from pole to post for my little girl's treatment, doctors ask for a huge sum of money for surgery, which is beyond my capacity. Her growing tumour is weighing her down and taking control over her body. I can't let her die. Please support us." Seema's father urges for help.

Seema's father broke into tears when he told us how he felt when he took his angel into his arms for the first time, who was struggling with her rare illness as she entered this world. Parents have tears of joy in their eyes when they hold their child for the first time but, he had tears of suffering. It's hard to imagine the pain of her parents, who see their daughter suffer day and night.

"No one treats my daughter. Everyone is asking for money and, I have nothing to give. I feel pathetic as I can't heal my daughter. What should I do? From where I should get the money? Days are passing and, she is losing on life. Please help me." Seema's mother urges for help.

It's time to hear a mother's plea for help to save her daughter's life. Each second is precious as it costs life to little Seema. We request you to please support Seema's treatment and help her live a happy life with her family. We will be very grateful to you for your support.
