Education uplifts the entire society. In the remotest of villages, education is luxury. Decades ago, a young boy from a tiny obscure village in district Sitapur of Uttar Pradesh dreamt big and sought education to fulfil his dreams. To reach school he had to swim across flooded rivers and walk in waist deep water. The spirit continued and after years of fighting hard he became a renowned doctor. It was time to give it back to his backward, financially barren and forgotten people not far away from bustling cities.
The thought converted to the dream of GSM education foundation, in the name of his equally hardworking father who was well known for his social work. The family home and land was donated to the school and after a humble beginning of providing education upto class 5, the relentless efforts of the teachers and management resulted in the school being recognized upto class 10th by the UP board of education. The school building was built by the sole contribution of the family and met the standards and parameters required of a high school as mandated by the education ministry.
Imagine this: this place STILL doesn’t have wired electricity (school was connected through a private connection recently), doesn’t have an all-weather road, is not traceable on googlemaps but still provides education upto class 10th and beyond for upto 400 students every year at very meagre cost. For years, friends and family have contributed for salary, maintenance and expenses of running the school. They nearly became self-sufficient and started nurturing dreams of intermediate and a degree college. Why not! The spirit was upbeat and the plans elaborate, but COVID crises struck at the perfectly wrong time.
The schools were shut down, livelihood was lost and parents withdrew their wards. The financial situation of the school tumbled into deep recess. The school building started to collapse as regular upkeep was not possible. The school resources dried up and regular teachers withered away. Teachers tried for online classes but it wasn’t possible. The dream of providing education from primary to degree seems nearly impossible.
After the covid crises settled, the management and teachers got together and decided to give it a good, honest fight. We started our “back to school” campaign. The management pitched in with some funds to restore the school in some working condition. BUT, it is an uphill task.
Nearly 300 students enrolled with us again because we have a track record of providing education with meagre resources. We have gained trust of the local people over decades. Our teachers are high quality, well-educated and with a sense of purpose of uplifting the entire region out of illiteracy and backwardness. Some of our students have made it to engineering colleges, some have done PhDs and some are still dreaming to become something. But we are short on funds. Funds to rebuild and restore the school building, to regularly pay salary to teachers, to build more rooms, to build more toilets, a decent playground and drinking water facilities. We are doing our bit, putting our heart and souls into it, but with your generous donations, we can really make some dreams come true.
Feel free to visit our school and see the school running. Village: Mishranpurva Post: Maheshpur, District Sitapur. Its 90 km from Lucknow and 50 km from Sitapur.
We call upon your generous hearts and pure souls to donate freely. Hundreds of students will be eternally grateful for your contribution in their fight against illiteracy and backwardness.
