interaction. I have come to realize that social distancing and wearing face masks are the new
normal. These times require all of us to work collectively and to the best of our ability to support
India is now in the spate of summers and our frontline workers like the police officers, essential
services providers and sanitation workers who are outdoors working in the heat need good quality,
washable cotton masks as their shield of protection. I have often been pained to see some of them
wearing flimsy single-use masks which are not washable and do not offer sustained protection, or
even very tight or thick face masks that are uncomfortable and suffocating in the summer heat.
For this reason, I decided to distribute washable cotton masks free of cost to frontline warriors and
essential service providers. With this intent, I wanted to identify a source of low cost, good quality
masks- just then I learned about Mrs. Savita M Singh, who retired in 2005 from Gangaram Hospital,
Delhi as the Deputy Nursing Superintendent after dedicating her life to a glorious career of serving
the ailing through her nursing profession. Her spirit of service is evident even today as she makes
good quality masks at home, and she and her husband are distributing them in their local area. I was
inspired to collaborate with Mrs. Singh. I also felt that having worked in a medical profession she
would have a good understanding of what a good quality mask should be like.
I am initiating this online fundraiser to support the cost of least 3,000 masks. I will give these masks
to police officers, vendors, sanitation workers, and shopkeepers.
This fundraiser will provide the money needed for good, comfortable, cotton masks which are an
essential tool for the health protection of those who step out to fulfill their duty for society. Each
contribution will help make a difference. I will update this page with photographs of the masks and
their distribution as we proceed with this initiative.
My name is Aravv Singh and I am a Grade 9 student at The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, Delhi.
Please support my sincere efforts by donating generously. The masks are priced at Rs.18/- each.
