Hi, I am writing this for my beloved husband - Saurabh Maitra, who is 47-year-old and is battling for his life due to lung cancer and is on critical life support for three weeks. However, there is hope for his survival and myself and my entire family are struggling to achieve that. A loving father, an endearing husband, and an ever-smiling and compassionate son and brother, Saurabh is also the responsible shoulder to rely on for all his close friends who have stood by him. Saurabh, a father of a seventeen-year-old daughter, has just gotten admission into first-year college. He is also the main earning member of his family and the main backbone of providing all inspiration and encouragement for the entire family.

During his visit to Delhi-NCR for some personal work last month, Saurabh fell sick as he started coughing out blood and he was evaluated and admitted at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, Haryana. During the medical evaluation, he underwent a CT Scan and a bronchoscopy, which revealed a large tumor (lung cancer) causing obstruction to his airway giving rise to coughing out blood. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he developed severe breathlessness after two days, for which he had to be put on ventilator support as a life-saving measure. Ever since he has been on ventilator support with various supportive measures. He has also been initiated on chemotherapy and radiation therapy for his lung cancer under the guidance of oncologist and radiotherapist. He has shown signs of improvement clinically but is still on critical care support which will help him to recover further.

However, finances is the biggest challenge for me at present as I am a school teacher only and this sudden twist of fate has taken me and my family totally by surprise with no preparedness in any form to face this super challenging situation. Thus, Saurabh is at present, laying far away from his beloved home in Kolkata, and is wishing to go back to his work as a lawyer and to his family. I and the rest of his family are emotionally devasted and looking forward to your kind helping hand and supportive shoulder in this hour of need and medical emergency. The cumulative amount so far has been stated to be around 35 lakhs INR - covering the cost of lung cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, critical care support, antibiotics for infection control in his lungs, and cardiac support.
