The Karbi’s who speak a common dialect “KARBI” are an ethnical tribe located in Assam, Karbianglong District. The general economic condition of the Karbi’s is below standard, as an estimated 90% of the Karbi’s life below the poverty line and are still very backward. Moreover, the districts are not well connected as there is lack of poor transportation facility due to problems of insurgency, hilly terrains and hillocks leading to a lack of suitable or regular transport and communication facility for interconnecting with the different places of East/West Karbi Anglong District.
The Bread for Life Trust has been working relentless since 1967. It is a Non-Profit Trust which has been formally registered recently under
- Certificate section 60 holding Registration no & year: 1775 (2014 -2015)
- Holds a 12A & 80G certificate of the Income Tax Act 1961
- With PAN Card # AACTB3562C
- CSR Registration No:CSR00026559
- And a functioning Bank account
The organization has been functioning with a view to explore and utilize available resources to increase the limited income of the people living in the region. At the onset the trust took reasonably small steps towards its goal by acquiring paddy land and employing villagers, which paved way for development in terms of economy. Gradual transactions with a nearby town called Hojai marked the coming in of roadways transforming the lives of people in this sub-division.
However, the Bread For Life Trust has an urgent need for funds to be able to complete the Sar Ik Terang (Governor) English Memorial School i.e. construction of the veranda outside the classroom and toilets for safe hygiene. These dire needed basic facility has affected not only the school administration but also the drop out in students especially young girls and women who come from nearby villages for Skill Development Training. The harsh monsoons which hit the walls of the bamboo made classrooms cause water seepage because of the non-availability of a veranda, classes are dispersed or teachers have to teach with great difficulty standing in water-filled classrooms and standing on muddy slippery floors.
To add to the woes of the teachers and students, the pathetic conditions of the bamboo made toilets in the school leads to unhygienic conditions, falling down of teachers/students due to the moist and soft earth during rainy season also leads to a dip in attendance and closure of school due to waterlogging spreading foul smell in and around the school premises, the breeding of malaria-causing mosquitoes and waterborne diseases affecting students health during summer/monsoon season.
For the sake of the Karbi Tribal children and for us as Sar Ik Terang (Governor) English Memorial School to be able to give them a decent education with basic hygienic facilities and a classroom free from waterlogging, would you kindly donate whatever you can for the construction of toilets and a veranda to stop water seepage into the classroom so that the students and young girls/women may stay healthy and with a burning excitement to come to school cum skill development Centre regularly will also Lead to a dual excitement of the school administration anticipating a full attendance for the academic year 2020 from students, young girls/ Women who attend the Skill Development Training after school hours .
