Pratima Sarkar (49 years) has been lying in the ICU at TATA Medical Hospital, Kolkata, for the last 21 days. She came to TATA Medical in January 2019 and was operated for high grade ovarian cancer. Since then her condition has deteriorated, as after two sessions of chemotherapy, she could not take it any more. Now she is battling for her life, and has been on ventilation for 3 weeks.
Pratima's husband Shankar Sarkar sold off everything, including his small business, his house and personal belongings to organize funds for her treatment. He has borrowed money from anyone and everyone he knew to pay the humongous hospital bill. Till now he has managed to pay  8 lakhs, but he has more than 4 lakhs due at the hospital. Now he is absolutely penniless and has no means of paying anything further. He does not have any means of continuing the treatment, and the condition of his wife is still critical. On talking to the hospital management, they have agreed to waive off the dues partially, but that would still leave Shankar with a deficit of 2-3 lakhs. Any financial assistance will be a blessing for them!
