    This fundraiser will benefit

    Samten Lepcha

    from West Sikkim

Samten Lepcha, from a very struggling family in West Sikkim village, needs about 7-8 lakhs INR for a kidney transplant (her sister is the only earner in the family). Please read below to know the details.

Samten Lepcha is one of my students from a very remote village in Sikkim (Upper Bullung, West Sikkim). I am running this fund raiser on his behalf. I am a teacher (Teach for India Alum) and teacher educator. In the photo, circled one is Samten and I myself ison right side, in yellow t-shirt. While I was teaching in a small village in West Sikkim, Samten was my student. Not able to pay for his own education, our school, Sikkim Himalayan Academy, sponsored him for his entire school education (LKG till class 12).
Later he started studying in a government college in Sikkim.
Recently both of his kidneys became non-functional. For last couple of months he is under dialysis in Ananalok Hospital in Siliguri, West Bengal.
Samten has no father, he has mother, a brother and an elder sister. Her elder sister is the only earner in his family and she recently got a low-paying job under one family one job scheme in Sikkim.

Each dialysis itself costs about 1500-2000 Rs and he has already gone through about 20 of them. Currently the family is living away from home renting a small place near the hospital and its been already very difficult to pay for everything.

The transplant will take place in January, only after doctors start his mother's treatment (potential donor) on January 10th. The actual transplant might take place in Kolkata and will cost anywhere over 8 lakhs as estimated.

I am trying to raise as much as possible through this campaign. Please help my student.
