India is on total lockdown and the crisis of Coronavirus is growing day by day.

Shrabontika, a Milaap borrower living in rural West Bengal is faced with a crisis - loss of livelihood. She says, "Right now, the scenario is such that my weaving work is totally shut down and the tradesmen to whom I sell my work have also closed down their shops. They are in no position to pay me."

Like Shrabontika, a large number of our rural borrowers and their families survive on daily wages from their kisan shops, poultry businesses and other small-scale businesses have been shaken up.

Our partner, Grameen Shakti shares the loss of livelihood in West Bengal.

Together, we have impacted 613,180 lives in the last 10 years. We have supported 153,295 borrowers, built 79,552 enterprises, 13,988 toilets, provided 70,755 solar lanterns and supported 6,320 children. This community which we have nurtured over the years faces hardship over grave losses in their businesses and would need to rebuild.
Along with our field partners across India, let us come together once again and kick-start small-scale businesses by our rural borrowers here. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards stimulating rural businesses, like Shrabontika’s after the curfew.

We have waived off all Milaap platform fees for this fundraiser.

As the saying goes, “If we survive, we survive together. If we perish, we perish together." The only way to fight this crisis is in fact truly together.
