Support My Wife Rumpa To Receive treatment for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
My name is Ashim Mazumder and I am here to raise funds for my wife Rumpa Roy Mazumder who is 44 years old, ever smiling and cheerful person, a PR professional worked with many NGOs and INGOs for several years. We reside in Kolkata, West Bengal. She love talking, laughing loudly and travelling to hills, all these was put to a pause in 2017, when she got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erithromatosus (SLE). SLE has damaged her diaphragm nerve which is a very vital nerve of human body and she became bilateral phrenic nerve pulsy. Her lung started shrinking and she became breathless.
Her life was saved at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamilnadu. She was given 25 viles of Human plasma as IGIV and biology infusion and was put on using of Bipap to help her lung muscle to stay healthy. She is receiving treatment under expert Rhumatology and Pulmonary Doctors at Christian Medical College, Vellore. Until now, family have spent about Rs.18,00,000 lakhs from 2017 to 2023 from savings, loans & selling assets.
2021 when the world was hit by COVID 19 pandemic the financial arrangements appeared a big challenge since our business which deals into supplying electronic ID cards to schools is completely shut. Her treatment which need close monitoring and constant follow up was impacted badly. She was in severe pain and bretheless and she had a flare up. This was the time when we sought your support and we were able to get her treated with biology infusion and necessary medications at CMC Vellore in August 2021. Our insurance is failing to help her, stating it's a Serious Genetic or chronic disease. We had no other way to save her without your support.
Presently she is on bipap support during sleep hour and oxygen concentrator as required this was possible for all your kind and sincere support. We never compromised in her treatment which can cause her danger.
As advised by her doctors
Rumpa was scheduled to visit CMC, Vellore for her quaterly follow up in November this year, which we completed and came back with all clear reports with the advise for next 3 months. Since SLE or any autoimmune disease patients are very unpredictable suddenly she complained about severe pain in pelvis area and day by day it was worsening. After consulting with local doctor when the cause of the pain was not clear to thtm we arrived at Vellore on 21st December and reported at Emergency department. Next day 22nd December she was admitted for further investigation and treatment.
Though She has been doing much better now and restored her capacity to work in school field and gained confidence with each passing day. Still as the disease need constant monitoring and expensive drugs which she has to be particular also each follow ups as advised by her doctors costs around 50000, which as family we have been fighting hardest to manage.
Today we resumed our campaign as Rumpa is admitted at CMC Vellore once again due to some complications. She is suffering from severe pain in pelvis area followed by urination and bowl issue. Rheumatology, Gynecology Gastroenterology & Urology dept Doctors of CMC hospital is seeing it and recommended investigation are going on to diagnose the cause of the pain. She is fighting it strongly. As a family we are trying our best to support her. Since last 7 years life has changed it's been a roller coaster for us. Such patients need constant follow up and restricted life style and expensive drugs, which we have been working hard and could make it happen without fail. Since SLE (Systemic Lupus Erithromytosis) the disease she is fighting with is not covered under Insurance company hence even after having an insurance it is always challenging to receive treatment as in patient.
