Please Help Me Save My Mother!

Hello everyone,

My name is Suman Chatterjee and I am here asking for everyone's help to save my mother. She is all the family I have, please read my story and help me in whatever way you can.

I work as a freelance graphic designer and animator. I live with my mother and our pet cats in a rented apartment in Madhyamgram Kolkata.

I've known about Milaap for a while now and every time I saw a new post about Milaap on facebook I kept telling myself that I will someday donate some money here. Being a simple graphic designer and ghostwriter, I do not make much money to be able to actively donate whenever I wanted. What little I earn is spent on my mother's medicine, rent food and pet supplies for our cats. And moreover, I have been struggling financially since July 2017.

Never did I know that a day will come when I will end up asking for help over here as I always had the confidence of "making it" someday with good enough salary when all my problems are solved.

However, last night the reality of my life was in front of my eyes as I saw my mother gasping and struggling to breathe.

At around 10 pm my mother started having breathing problems and she said she was feeling unwell and wouldn't eat.
She never had any breathing problems, but always complained of gas and for that, she was taking prescribed medications.

But by 2 am her condition became critical, as soon as I saw her, I knew something was seriously wrong.

I called our neighbor uncle who had a pressure measuring kit. We found out that her BP had spiked to 220/110 BP.  At that point, the neighbor uncle said there could be a serious risk of stroke in such condition. We needed to shift her to a hospital as soon as possible.

Now here's my reality's slap on my face. I had JUST been paid last night a mere sum of 8900 - that is the ONLY amount of money I had - not only in the bank but overall.

I booked a cab for a multispeciality hospital 3 kms away on Ola and got her admitted in emergency ward and then to CCU. The cashier advised me that since there is no general bed available, we had to go for the expensive 6000 rupees per night bed. It was either that or go out searching for something new somewhere else at 2 am in the night.

I was told to expect my bills to rise to around 30,000 - 50,000 including all the expenses for tests and treatment. She might have gallstones which also might need to be removed if tests show something is wrong there.

At this point, I put on a brave face paid an admission fees of 4000 rupees with only around 3000 being left in my bank.

Now I'm afraid I won't even have enough money to get her out of there. Which brings me to the only place I thought could help me in such a situation. I would have taken her to a local municipal hospital but they did not have emergency services, they denied us entry.

I am not sure if I can get her discharged and treated in a municipal hospital without further risks. Even if I did that I am looking at at least 10,000 to 15,000 worth in bills - which wouldn't even treat her problem.

So by having no options in my hand, I have turned to Milaap. I am only asking for a small amount of money but this amount of money at this point in time for holds the highest significance in my life - that is my mother's treatment.

Please help me raise this money as soon as possible, I don't know whom else to turn to or talk to.
