    Rekha Jyoti

    from Fatehabad, Haryana

Apart from Talent & Hardwork, the most important ingredient for an athlete to compete globally is proper Nutrition. Sisters REKHA (21 years) and JYOTI (19 years) have abundant talent & have been training hard since many years in their remote village of Haryana, to justify their accomplishments in Athletics. But where they seriously lack is proper nutrition. More importantly Dietary supplements which costs a lot of money, month-on-month.

Background -
  • They belong to a family which is primarily engaged in small time farming.
  • Rekha & Jyoti train under coach Hanuman Singh at Bangaon. A tiny village in Haryana
  • REKHA is a High Jumper with a personal best of 1.77 meters
  • JYOTI is a Javelin thrower with a personal best of 45.17 meters
  • Both have won Multiple national competitions & have consistently reached the Podium every year
  • Due to Hanuman's personal contributions & sacrifice, this village is now called as a Little Finland, due to the number of poor girls he is successfully training in Athletics (Javelin throw, High Jump & Triple Jump).
  • After their recent successes, the group was also covered in Indian express sports, and widely appreciated.
Why are the funds needed -
  • In order to qualify and compete in the upcoming global competitions like 2022 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, Rekha & Jyoti need to quickly go beyond their regular diet.
  • Ask any sportsman and he/she shall tell you how important Dietary and Nutritional supplements are for recovery of joints & muscles, and also to improve the game.
  • Sponsorships are extremely hard to come by in Non-cricketing sports & especially in domestic Athletics.
  • Presently their family is somehow managing a daily diet, but they cannot afford the monthly expenditure on Proteins, Vitamins, dry fruits and other GNC supplements.
  • Every day they train hard for 5-6 hours, 7 days a week. But unless the correct nutrition is provided, this training causes more injuries than improvements.
  • This money raised will not only help them train harder but in the correct manner. They will be able to reach the performance levels needed to cross the barriers of global competitions.
  • Several competitions are lined up in 2022-23 and these 2 sisters can surely make India proud on a global stage by winning Medals.
Unfortunately if the money is not raised now, their crucial years would be lost and India would lose another group of talented athletes to government sports quota jobs and early marriage.
