I'm Radhika from Chennai, I'm a social fundraiser. This is for funds for a social awareness campaign towards World Ocean Day on June 8th 2019.
Gowtham, A social Artist made a Whale with 40,000 bottle caps to create awareness to the people regarding how irresponsible we are and how our small lethargic way of throwing the caps affecting our ocean and sea animals.
So we both decided to create awareness in Chennai by keeping the whale made with plastic wastes in public places. We will be keeping in 10 various public places like Marina, Besant Nagar , Mahabalipuram, Schools and Awareness shows will take place for one whole month from May 8th. Production cost of the whale was 2.5 lacs which we have contributed from ourselves. We need 5 more lacs for the entire Campaign.
We're all aware that oceans have become the dumpsters for humanity’s plastic wastes - the harrowing images of sea life choking in plastic are not easily forgotten. Despite our efforts to manage plastic wastes effectively, the definition of plastic waste in our minds is something that still needs to be worked upon - we consider plastic bottles to be waste and treat them accordingly, but what about the plastic caps of these bottles, those are inevitably lost? Gowtham has put together a massive creation of around 45,000 of these very same plastic caps, to show where they end up - inevitably choking sea life.
The idea of the work is to bring ultimate awareness to save the mother earth and all our living things across the world. The plastic we throw, we have to understand it’s staying in landfill or it’s being transferred to ocean by various means.
The ultimatum of the work is to bring non degradable bins all over the city, if not at least in main public places. We have to completely understand including the small plastic of a pet bottle can be recycled 9 times and even after that various startups are converting the non-recyclable plastics into something useful. So finding the right medium by which different plastics are made accessible to the right people we can make a better sustainable world for everyone.
THE SMALL PLASTIC CAN CHOKE A 70 FEET BLUE WHALE.
We request your contribution towards a responsible society. Your 100 Rs will talk a talk. We also welcome everyone to visit the campaigns and give your supports and take Oath.
