Dear reader,

My name is Sumit Kumar and I am here to raise funds for my father Shri Rang Bahadur Singh who is 59 years old.

My father has been suffering from an atypical recurring meningioma since 2005. His atypical and recurrent tumor case has always baffled the top neurosurgeons of this country and unfortunately, even after multiple operations since 2005 his brain tumor still relapsed this year. As a first line of treatment, we consulted doctors at our hometown in Kolkata. They suggested an immediate surgery and asked us to visit a hospital outside Kolkata since any hospital in Kolkata region did not have the facilities to support my father's critical surgery. As a result of this and also assessing the COVID scenario, we got the surgery done at Medanta, Gurgaon on June 12, 2020 and since then my father has been suffering from multiple life-threatening complications and infections related to the surgery.

Post surgery, he developed multiple life-threatening gram-negative infection throughout his body – Brain, lungs, blood, and urine. He was immediately put on ventilator and was put on multiple last line antibiotics. Even after seven days on ventilator, he hardly regained any consciousness and hence, he was tracheostomized so that the ventilator support could continue. He stayed in ICU for around four months. After that he has always been in a minimally conscious state fighting multiple infections. The doctors continued his treatment in hospital for two more months but seeing that he is developing multiple hospital acquired infections, asked us to continue further treatment outside Medanta. Upon doctors advise, we shifted him outside Medanta and set-up the necessary infrastructure at a rented place in Gurgaon.

Currently, he is still suffering from multiple brain gram-negative infections, but doctors are still hopeful that he may recover given a proper nursing care and physiotherapy and medical treatment at home. He continues to remain on tracheostomy, oxygen support, and his Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score is 5 with zero motor senses.

Since June 2020, we've spent about Rs. 1.2 crores (including 85 lakhs at hospital). As he was diagnosed with brain tumor at a very early age, he was not able to get a big health insurance cover. The insurance of Rs 4 lakh was exhausted only after around 4-5 days stay at the hospital. We have arranged the remaining amount from selling assets, taking loans, raising funds through college friends, and exhausting our savings.

We have set-up a ICU environment here at a rented place outside hospital which costs us Rs. 8500 per day. In addition to this, pathology charges, physiotherapy session, home rent, medicines, and consumables needed for tracheostomy costs us around Rs 9000 per day. Net-net, we incur around 5.5 lakhs per month and with negligible funds left at my end, it is close to impossible to sustain further treatment.

Hence, it is a heartfelt request to please provide any sort of feasible financial assistance from your end. Every bit counts. Also request you to keep him in your prayers. The doctor's are very hopeful that he will recover given he gets the prolonged treatment.

Please share this campaign link with your friends and family. In case you wish to directly donate the amount via UPI (to circumvent any gateway charges), please feel free to send it at +91-9884006612 (my contact number)
