Help Priyanka Undergo Multiple Organ Transplant

I am Priyanka Digamber and I’m doing this fundraiser for my multi-organ transplant surgery.

I got detected with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 15 and have been on insulin therapy for the last 18 years. Over time, I developed neuropathy and retinopathy which started hindering my way of life. A couple of years ago, I got detected with advanced-stage kidney disease, which progressed within a year into End Stage Kidney Failure. I had to go on thrice-a-week maintenance haemodialysis since July 2018. Kidney Failure came tagging along with Hypertension and Anaemia. I had blood pressures constantly running above 200\100 and was at the lowest of my physical strength.

My best option to get out of this condition is a simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant surgery. It is an uncommon, complicated and risky procedure. I would be the first person in Mumbai to get it done. I would be rid of dialysis and diabetes and would be able to live a better life. I want to start working again and take care of my parents. I am not on insurance and already in huge debts. My father, 65, is a critical heart patient. He suffered from a cardiac arrest last year and the condition of his heart is extremely weak (LVEF is 20%, the minimum threshold is 35%). My mother is a housewife.

I had to quit my job in 2017 because of my physical condition. Since then, I have not been earning anything but the expenses for my monthly dialysis treatment, medicines, diagnostics, doctor visits and emergency hospitalizations (that happened almost every month) kept piling up. Our savings slowly got exhausted and we had to borrow money from friends and acquaintances. We finally moved to a remote place on rent outside Mumbai because we couldn’t afford to live in the city.

It is my earnest request to you to support me through the most trying phase of my life and be a part of my fight for freedom from the illness. Please also share this among your friends, family, colleagues, social circles, and any institutions that you think would be able to help me with the medical expenses. I pray that none of you or your loved ones ever go through this phase, but I would love to help you with any information and guidance regarding organ donation and organ transplant if there is ever a need.

Love, Light and Prayers for your well-being,
Priyanka!

The total estimated cost of surgery was underquoted and we have now incurred hospital, medical and diagnostics bills worth INR 30,00,000 since my surgery. Further maintenance expenses quoted by the hospital is INR 6,00,000 per annum (I'm already incurring INR 50,000+ per month). This is in addition to any emergency hospitalizations or medicines required.

Dear Supporters,

Within 4 months of registering for the transplant, I was called in for the surgery on 21st May. The surgery was performed on 22nd May at Jupiter Hospital, Thane. It went smooth and I am recovering well in my post-surgical hospital stay with no complications. Special thanks to the entire transplant team at the hospital for making it comfortable for me.

I also want to extend my gratitude and prayer to give strength to the family of the 16-year-old boy who met with an accident and whose organs are now breathing through me. It was a very brave decision that the family took in such a delicate situation. I wish no one goes through what I have endured in the last few years and that more people take this decision to donate their loved ones’ organs so that people who are fighting for their life, like I was, lead an easier one.

I got re-admitted to Jupiter Hospital on three occasions after my discharge, almost every 2-3 days. There are no major complications but expected variations that the body makes in the process of accepting the new organs. I have spent most of my month (June) at the hospital. Now, there are 3 additional bills amounting close to INR 10,00,000 in all. My Ex-bosses have been kind enough to loan me a considerable amount to pay for my bills. We've also got help from Milaap of INR 2,00,000 that has helped us to pay the bills in full.

Dad has been running around a lot, managing everything from my hospitalizations to my follow-ups and diagnostics and medicines to managing the household.

It’s been 3 weeks that my reports are getting better and more stable. Medicine doses have started reducing. From 46 KGs a couple of weeks ago, I’ve come to the 50 KG+ mark. I’m feeling stronger by the day. I’m able to eat well without discomfort, there are no dietary restrictions and I’m allowed to drink a lot of fluids. It is so wonderful to breathe a lung full of air, have enough blood in the veins, feel a normal heartbeat and experience the sense of freedom.

There were a few people who contacted me regarding some organ transplant queries that they had, when they went through some media articles, some contacted me through social media asking about organ donation as I keep sharing relevant posts. It gives me immense joy to share my knowledge and steer them in the right direction. I hope to help as many as I can. I’m available for a chat or call in case you need any help regarding organ donation transplant. You could search for me on Facebook by my name ‘Priyanka Digamber’.

We created the fundraiser a long time ago but running around for the surgery that happened ahead of the expected time, we were not able to manage this activity. I am in huge debt and pending credit bills. I want to pursue this again so that I can start a debt-free life soon and focus on my health and getting back to action.

I would be much grateful if you could donate and spread the word around making this a reality for me.
