I lost my mother to Covid19 a few days back. She was a constant source of inspiration for me. The last 4 years were particularly difficult for her and the family. Suffering since 1998 from a progressive and incurable lung disease, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, her conditioned worsened in 2017 and she found herself on constant oxygen support and needed frequent hospital admissions and prolonged ICU stays. In a race against time, in November 2019, she underwent a double lung transplant and was recovering thereafter. However, the second wave of Covid19 in May 2021 unfortunately led to her departure for heavenly abodes.
Her medical treatments since 2017 have extinguished my family's resources with the cumulative cost of medical care going well beyond our means. Despite my personal resources and fundraising efforts, I still had to undertake a substantial amount of debt from friends, family and institutions to finance her medical treatment.
