    This fundraiser will benefit

    Praggya Poddar

    from Bangalore, Karnataka

Hello everyone! :)

My name is Praggya Paramita Poddar and I am a Teach For India fellow, currently in my second year of the fellowship. I teach a bunch of 37 super-energetic, enthusiastic and curious sixth graders of a Government School (Government Kannada and English Model Primary school K.P. Agrahara) in Vijayanagar,Bangalore.

This fundraiser is for my kids who are future change-makers ready to conquer the world. All they need are swords and shields. Only with adequate resources can we prepare our children to face the real world. What are swords and shields for a kid if not pens and books?
My children, 37 of them, are mostly first-generation learners whose parents, all of whom are daily-wage workers, want them to have the best learning experiences and change the destiny of their births.

We are working to equip our children with resources that would make their learning more enjoyable and relevant. Essentially, we are looking at building a whole new learning experience for our children. It is our bet that, with a library in our school, this can be made possible. Yes, a library, for which we need lots and lots of books, cupboards to hold them, tables, chairs, charts, white boards, stationery and projector (for common use). Every teacher is a literacy teacher irrespective of the subject they teach. Every child requires  grade-level language reading and comprehension skills in English to comprehend and connect with the concepts and to be able to access the innumerable reading material that this world holds. We believe we can create a learning space for them to acquire these skills and to bridge this literacy gap.

A portion of the funds will be used for basic and essential amenities -electricity, fans and lighting; seating arrangements, painting.

Over the last year of the fellowship, I was acquainted with the needs of our children and became more aware of what is it that I want to do before I complete my fellowship in April 2020 that will accelerate their learning. Building a learning space that can be tuned to become sustainable and self-regulatory was the idea that helped me connect the dots.

We need your support in cash and/or in kind. If you would like to donate in kind, we are looking for storybooks for kids in the 10-14 age group, seating solutions, shelves, unused charts, storage spaces, colouring/painting material, or anything that you feel might help us in making this space fun and safe. Please connect with me on the numbers provided below and we can arrange a place and time for picking up the materials.

Help our children unravel their potential to the fullest capacity possible.
Share this message to your friends and everyone you know to spread the word.
