Story

Summary

Empower girls by education to transform them into dignified and financially independent women. Gender Inequality is a deep rooted social problem in India. Girls do not have equal to career, access to education and rights & respect as male have in our society. Higher Education is the way to empower the women so that they can break the cycle of Poverty, uplift their standard of living and support their family.
The Privilege Fellowship Program under aegis of LEX Foundation is a distinctive higher and professional education and personality development program. This program addresses the grim situation of girls' education in India by achieving their overall development via monetary and individual mentoring support.
We have reached out to 100s of girls, and plan to reach 1000s more during next few years to empower them by Education, making them economically independent and dignified women. Currently, we are looking for support for 50 aspiring girls under this program.

Problem
In India, large number of deserving girls from weak socio-economic background is not able to access higher education. They drop out from the education stream due to lack of resources, awareness and guidance. Social, cultural and parental pressure to support the family or get married early, force the girls out of school. This leads to a sharp decline in number of girls completing high school and those completing college in India, thus increasing gender inequality in the society.

Solution to the Problem
Each Fellow stays in the program till she finishes her higher education, which is an average period of five years. This program is a unique initiative that goes beyond monetary assistance to support the overall development of girls by taking care of their college education financially and providing them individual attention, career counseling and regular mentoring; to widen their scope of opportunities, ensure their social and economic independence and help them develop social sensitivity.

 Impact
The project is to closely map the progress of 50 deserving and talented girls from weak socio-economic background into empowered, financially independent and dignified women.
Commenced in 2021, the project aims at facilitating transformation of girls from socio economic background into educated, employable, socially responsible women; most of whom would drop out because of their financial position.

Selection & Induction – First Batch
The Selection Process for first batch (Privilege Fellowship 2021) has been concluded and we have inducted over 50 fellows (girl students) who have embarked on their new journey. These fellows are from rural areas, studying at Govt Schools. We are so excited to usher them into a new phase in their life. The entire team at Lex Foundation supported by volunteers on ground has played a vital role in the Selection Process, ensuring that the most deserving students are inducted into the fellowship.
We have formulated yearly curriculum to be covered through online or offline workshops and sessions.  We are connecting professionals having vast knowledge with industrial experience who will guide the fellows for their chosen career and will conduct workshops at various topics. Further we are creating a volunteering program for professionals from different fields who can join us a volunteer to hold hands & mentor the fellows.
These workshops and mentoring sessions will clear doubts & queries that fellows have regarding their career and future so that they can be focused with a clear view about their career, these sessions will also help in mental well being of the fellows

Our fellows will get opportunity to attend sessions to be conducted by highly professionals on topics like non verbal communication, Resume writing, work place biasness, team work, public speaking and sessions on awareness about girls rights, social issues etc.
We are also planning to conduct a Olympiad Exam for Rural students aiming to generate a spirit of competition and preparation toward competitive exams and admission tests after their schooling. There will be outdoor education trips and some social welfare based activities to keep our fellows involved and motivated.
