In 1968, the  legendary German coach Dettmar Cramer, called Poongam Kannan, the Pele of Asia. His mesmerising skills on the ball left people, teammates and opponents spell bound. He played for 8 long years with Mohun Bagan and 2 years with East Bengal , and formerly  captained the Indian National Team.
Our hero of yesteryear’s is languishing in poverty , surviving on water and rice, often skipping meals due to his financial condition. Suffering from high bouts of Uric Acid and now a stroke , he finds him self admitted with no money to pay bills or for medication and nutrition.
He once lamented “for the country and state for which I gave my everything, I’ve received nothing in return”
Most of us might have not seen him play , but the least we can do is wipe clean the ignorance of our ancestors.
We’ve set up a fundraiser to contribute whatever little we can to help someone whom was Once our captain , our leader and is still our legend.
