Story

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I decide to become"
- Carl Jung

THE OPERATION OF A LIFETIME

It is because he is not what happened to him but that he is what he dreams of becoming that you know Hugo so well. You have been following him and supporting us now for several years - we are grateful to you every day - through his adventures which are an implementation of this quote from Carl Jung so rich in meaning.

Although he is full of life and keeps a smile in all circumstances, today, spasticity, a muscle tension linked to his cerebral palsy, causes pain and bone deformations in him that greatly limit his motor progress and autonomy.

Hugo underwent an opertation on 25th March to progress towards his quest for autonomy. This is a SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy).

This heavy operation consisted of opening the spine to isolate the sensory nerve. The fibers of this nerve will were tested to be able to cut those most affected by spasticity.

By eliminating this muscle tension in this way, the pains and deformities were reduced and would offer unexpected comfort and allow Hugo to continue to progress serenely.

There is no similar intervention in France, which is why it as carried out in Bonn, Germany.

Hugo calls on your generosity and counts on you all (with small or large gestures) to help him improve his life and gain autonomy. To help him continue to enjoy the benefits of life in greater comfort. It will make a real difference for him.

ASSOCIATION

Intended to raise funds to finance the therapies and equipment necessary for Hugo, suffering from a motor and cerebral disability since his birth, the association "Le Sourire d'Hugo" was founded by the parents of the little boy in May 2016 .

Hugo and his twin brother Loïc form a powerful duo that generates good humor and energy. This tandem often manages to drain their parents' batteries but not enough to make them deviate from the model they want to instill in their children:  enjoying life whatever the circumstances . It is in this spirit that they live daily and that they have decided to create the association. To show that despite the difficulties associated with a disability, it is possible to live happily and experience a life filled with great adventures. And indeed, even if concretely, it is not simple, each day still offers its concentrate of joy, good humor which materializes in the smile that their son Hugo displays permanently ... hence the name chosen for the association: Le Sourire d'Hugo.

How to help the association?

The funds collected by the association come from two different sources.

The actions that the association leads on its own (the journeys of Hugo and his dad, the sale of t-shirts and caps, etc.)

The actions carried out by the people met during the journeys who put their talents and passions at the service of the association: music groups, dance troupes, actors, who organized shows whose proceeds were donated to "Hugo's Smile ”. A pilates teacher who introduces his sport in exchange for a donation. Lately, hypnotherapists have given hypnosis sessions in exchange for donations for the association.
