    PARVATI DEVI

    from Nelamangala, Karnataka

Sita Devi (in the above picture), from Churchu Jharkhand, is an ambitious woman who is an expert in Sohrai art, she has now has stepped out of her comfort zone to earn her livelihood. Sohrai, a paragon of art, that revives the nature, is the hobby and livelihood of many such women from Churchu, Barkagaon and Bishnugarh Blocks of Hazaribagh.

We are happy to inform you that a ray of hope has risen in the form of production groups that has been created by these tribal women to expand the Sohrai art from wall paintings to other forms like paintings on calendars, files, saree, envelopes, note books and vases.

Sohrai is an art painted with great felicity and imagination. The art promotes the rich experience and vivid memory of the villages artists in the form of animals, birds, flowers etc. We, hereby, are trying to conserve such memory and rich heritage that has been lost in the woods.
Lets come together and  support the tribal women's attempt to revive the vibrant Sohrai art. It is a  great opportunity to contribute your bit for it!

I, Keerthishree, is an IAS officer of the region and Parvati Devi (the beneficiary) works in the Production Group.
